Jobscan reviews: what is free, what it costs, how to cancel
Jobscan reviews come down to one question: what do you get free? As of October 3, 2026, Jobscan's free plan includes 5 resume scans a month. Paid plans are $49.95 billed monthly, or $89.95 every 3 months after a 7-day free trial. Both renew until you cancel, and refunds are limited to the first 2 days of a billing period.
Free, and you see your score without an account.
Everything below about Jobscan comes from its own pricing page, cancellation policy, help centre and product pages, read on October 3, 2026. Jobscan is a competitor of the checker on this page, so we stick to what Jobscan says about itself. Prices change: check the checkout page before you pay.
What Jobscan is and who runs it
Jobscan compares your resume with a job description and gives you a match rate, plus tips on keywords and formatting. Its about page says the idea came from its CEO, James Hu: when he was job hunting in 2013, he "discovered that companies were using software to scan resumes for keywords."
Its SaaS agreement names the company as Jobscan Corporation, a Delaware corporation with offices at 89 Yesler Way #203, Seattle, WA 98104.
Is Jobscan free? What the free plan includes
Yes, in part. Its pricing page lists a Free plan at "$0 forever" with:
- "5 Free Resume Scans monthly"
- "5 ATS & Recruiter Findings"
- Job Tracker, Post Interview Thank You Notes, Resume Builder, Resume Manager, Chrome Extension and the Jobscan Learning Center
A scan is one comparison of your resume against one job description, and its help centre says a rescan after you edit counts as another scan. Free scans are added each month on the day you joined, and unused ones roll over up to a maximum of 5. To get them, its help centre says your email must be verified and you must be on the Free Membership plan, so the free scans come with a Jobscan account.
Where payment starts, as of October 3, 2026
| Plan on the pricing page | Price shown | How it bills |
|---|---|---|
| Quarterly | $29.98 per month | "Billed as $89.95 every 3 months", after a 7-day free trial |
| Monthly | $49.95 per month | "Billed as $49.95 every month", no trial |
The paid plans add "Unlimited Resume Scans", "Unlimited AI Optimizations", an AI cover letter generator, a LinkedIn optimizer and more. A few things worth knowing before you pay:
- The trial is on the quarterly plan only. Its FAQ says that once the trial ends, "you will be billed for the next quarter of your subscription", and that there is no trial if you pick the monthly plan.
- A $1 hold at the start. Its help centre says a trial begins with "a temporary $1 authorization hold" on your card, which is not a charge.
- Over a year, if you never cancel: 4 quarterly charges of $89.95 is $359.80, and 12 monthly charges of $49.95 is $599.40 (our arithmetic from the listed prices).
- Currency and tax. Prices are shown in US dollars, and its help centre says "All subscription charges are processed in USD", so your bank converts them if you pay in another currency. Its FAQ says it adds state and local sales tax based on your billing address.
Jobscan refunds
Jobscan's cancellation policy says: "Refunds will only be granted to Jobscan Premium members who refute their charges within 2 calendar days of the billing period start and have not used the service within the said billing period." It adds that "A fee of 3.5% of the original payment made will be charged", that requests are decided "on a case by case basis", and that "Cancellation does not issue refunds automatically."
To ask, email [email protected] with the subject line "Refund Request", your Jobscan email and your reason. In practice, that means asking within two days of the charge and before you run another scan.
How to cancel Jobscan
- Sign in and open your Account Details page.
- If you paid by credit card, its help centre says there is a Cancel Plan button at the bottom of the page. Click it and follow the prompts to the end.
- If you do not see the option, email [email protected].
To cancel a trial without paying, do it on or before the last day: its FAQ says that if you cancel "on or before your trial expiration date, your account will not be charged". After you cancel a paid plan, you keep the paid features until the end of the period, then move to the Free plan. Its FAQ warns that you then "lose access to paid features and all data associated with those features", so save anything you need first.
What Jobscan does well
To be fair to it: the free plan is a working tool, not a preview, with five scans a month, a job tracker and a resume builder. Comparing your resume with the exact job description you are applying to is a sensible way to spot missing skills. The pricing page states the billing cycle, the trial rules and the cancellation policy in plain words, and you can cancel from your own account.
Some customers report being charged after a free trial or after they believed they had cancelled, and being refused refunds; you can read their accounts on Trustpilot.
Jobscan vs Jobician
Jobscan's column is from its own pages, read October 3, 2026.
| Jobscan | Jobician | |
|---|---|---|
| Free report | Yes: 5 free scans a month on the Free plan | The full checker report is free |
| Account needed for the free report | Yes: its help centre ties free scans to a verified email on the Free Membership plan | No account needed |
| What the score measures | A match rate of your resume against one job description, "based on your hard skills, education level..., job title, soft skills, and other keywords", 1 to 100% | Our estimate of how cleanly your resume parses and how well it is built, from the resume alone. It is not a number any employer sees |
| Price | $49.95 billed monthly, or $89.95 every 3 months after a 7-day free trial | The report is free; paid plans for fixes and tailoring |
| Renewal | Both plans bill again each cycle until you cancel | The free report has nothing to renew |
| Cancel | Cancel Plan button on your Account Details page, or email support | The free report has nothing to cancel |
The two answer different questions: Jobscan's score compares your resume with one job description, ours looks at the resume on its own. If you want to see what software reads in your resume, you can check it here without an account.
Questions
Is Jobscan free?
Partly. As of October 3, 2026, its pricing page lists a Free plan at "$0 forever" with "5 Free Resume Scans monthly", a job tracker and a resume builder. Unlimited scans and its AI tools are in the paid plans.
What is the Jobscan resume score?
Jobscan calls it a match rate. Its resume scanner page says it is "based on your hard skills, education level (when an advanced degree is included in the job description), job title, soft skills, and other keywords", on a scale of 1 to 100%, and names 75 as the target.
Do I need an account to use Jobscan's free scans?
Its help centre says that to receive your free monthly scans, "make sure your email is verified and you're on the Free Membership plan", which you check on your Account Settings page.
Why did Jobscan charge me $1?
Its help centre says that when you begin a free trial, Jobscan places "a temporary $1 authorization hold" on your payment method to check it is valid. It says the hold is usually released within 24 hours, and can take up to 7 to 10 business days.
Is there a free Jobscan alternative?
The Jobician resume checker on this page gives you its full report free, with no account. It reads your resume on its own rather than comparing it with a job description, so it answers a different question than Jobscan's match rate.
Can I get a refund from Jobscan?
Only in one case. Its cancellation policy says refunds go to Premium members who ask within 2 calendar days of the billing period start and have not used the service in that period, with a 3.5% fee, decided case by case.
